What is it about?
The burden of CAP among critically ill VOP is high, encompassing significant morbidity, mortality and health costs worldwide. Management of critically ill very old CAP patients should be guided by their baseline characteristics, clinical presentation and risk factors for multidrug-resistant pathogens. Early recognition and diagnosis of CAP and its complications such as sepsis allows for the prompt initiation of the antibiotic therapy. Preventive interventions are of pivotal importance to improve outcomes and reduce the occurrence of adverse consequences.
