What is it about?
This study entitled “Work Productivity Loss in Mild to Moderate COPD: Lessons Learned from CanCOLD study” is unique as it brings new and important information from a population-based perspective for significant burden at work in individuals with mild chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The study emphasizes the importance that physicians assess symptom burden using a simple tool, the COPD Assessment Tool (CAT) to identify patients with high symptom burden (CAT≥10). These patients despite having mild COPD and many yet undiagnosed have an increased likelihood of experiencing increased work productivity loss (i.e., being absence from work or attending work while sick, e.g. decreased work quality or quantity). This should further translate into allocation of health management programs in the workplace.
