What is it about?
The international Burden of Obstructive Lung Disease (BOLD) study analyzed data from general populations in 26 sites. The aim of the study was to see if there was any association between the common lung disease COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) and unemployment. More than 18000 participants took part in this study, of which around 11% was shown to have COPD. Even after correction for several possible influencing factors we found that persons with COPD had a significant increased risk of unemployment compared to persons without COPD. This affects people and welfare systems worldwide.
