What is it about?
This study attempts to determine whether native English listeners are capable of reliably detecting a foreign accent in English vowels in monosyllabic (CVC) words spoken by Australian and Japanese talkers.

Why is it important?
The results suggest that, apart from a combination of F1, F2 and duration of vowels, there remain some unexplained cues that enabled native listeners to distinguish native from non-native talkers.
