What is it about?

War should be defined more widely than only as a bloody conflict between two armed groups. Genocide and democide tend to be justified by the perpetrators in terms of a latent or imminent threat to their group by the persecuted group - unless this is taken into account, the phenomenon that has assumed massive importance in the 20th century cannot begin to be studied properly.

Why is it important?

If war studies is confined to conflicts between two armed groups, this is too narrow a definition and cannot come to grips with the great mass murders of the 20th century.
