What is it about?

Insured patients by the design of the Nigerian NHIS should not have problem assessing care due to financial constraints. This invariably should assist their adherence to medication. We, therefore, tested the hypothesis and concluded that it could assist diabetic patients to adhere to their medications

Why is it important?

Adherence to medication is a vital component of diabetes care. NHIS being in its infancy in Nigeria needed to be evaluated for its effect on this important aspect of care

Perspectives

The publication, although used a small sample which was a reflection of the NHIS coverage among diabetics in Nigeria brought to focus some aspects of care that NHIS operators should focus on assessment of the overall effectiveness of the scheme
