This is a focused and systematic review of the literature published over the last two decades, aimed at searching for best practices and supporting psychosocial interventions within the domain of mental health, conducted among civilian populations affected by political violence, armed conflict, and wars.

Why is it important?

This review is of critical importance to better understand the lack of evidence and limitations of most commonly used psychotherapeutic treatment modalities in medical and humanitarian interventions conducted among civilian populations exposed to potentially traumatic events, armed conflict and war, including forced displacement and migration. It's timely because of the current massive displacement of populations and refugees from Syria and Iraq and the need to conduct supportive and culturally sensitive interventions in response to the growing needs of these populations.
