What is it about?

We have shown that in diabetic patients adequately controlled with regard to conventional cardiovascular risk factors like” FBS, TG,LDL,HDL,and BP” uncontrolled postprandial blood glucose can lead to cardiovascular events.

Why is it important?

The importance of postprandial blood glucose in developing cardiovascular disease is challenging. A large number of studies have shown that high blood glucose after glucose challenge test can be a predictor of cardiovascular events independent of FBS. Our study, conducted in a real world setting highlights the role of postprandial glucose in incidence of cardiovascular disease even in patients with acceptable FBS.

Perspectives

It is worthy to do more observational studies, and even clinical trials, if possible, among diabetic patients of different ethnicities to show the significance of controlling postprandial blood glucose in incidence of cardiovascular events, and apply it as an important part of preventive strategies in this respect.
