What is it about?

This is the first systematic review investigating cardiac rehab programmes (CRP) effects in patients with severe aortic stenosis repaired by either surgical way (sAVR) or TAVI. In both groups, a CRP increased exercise tolerance, functional independence, health-related quality of life and maximal exercise capacity. In addition, the meta-analysis results showed that patients undergoing sAVR or TAVI had similar benefits in exercise tolerance and functional independence.

Why is it important?

Our findings show that cardiac rehabilitation programmes improve the functional capacity and quality of life in aortic stenosis patients after valve repair. Besides that, we found that patients who underwent TAVI benefitted with a cardiac rehabilitation programme similar to sAVR patients.

Perspectives

We believe that this article has made an important contribution to an important area of cardiology and that it can collaborate to establish guidelines and to the develop health policies for the study population.
