This work looks at the manipulation of warm-up protocols in developing snowboard and ski cross athletes to determine whether start performance can be improved. It also demonstrates that body mass has a strong relationship with start performance in junior athletes, which has implications for talent selection of in these sports.

Why is it important?
The findings of this work are important as the specific warm-up protocols that were used were not effective in junior snowboard and ski cross athletes, however more research is required to establish whether the protocols may improve adult athletes' start performance. Furthermore, the strong relationship found between body mass and start time in junior snowboard and ski cross athletes has implications for junior competitions, as early developing athletes are placed at a competitive advantage when compared to late developing athletes of the same age.
