What is it about?

Interviews with clients at 6 months post visit to a Nurse-led Memory Clinic showed that the clients and carers did not recall much of the advice or information received at the visit. They associated the memory clinic visit with a 'memory test' - the ACE-III, and they used the results from the test to benchmark themselves against 'what is normal'.

Why is it important?

This paper highlights how little client's and carers remember of a memory clinic visit and reinforce the need for structured decision making support at this important time. Client's were very interested in benchmarking themselves against others in the population.

Perspectives

I feel we can invest more time in researching the best approaches to providing advice and support at the time of a cognitive deficit diagnosis.
