What is it about?
The REHABILAID project is part of a collaborative study (Germany, Greece, and Italy), funded by the European Commission Directorate-General Mobility & Transport, and sought to explore the physical, psychosocial and financial sequel of severe injuries sustained in Road Traffic Crashes. The REHABILAID project is expected to guide European policy on the complex needs of injured patients and develop an integrated and holistic response to patients’ needs.

Why is it important?
The study aims to fill a gap in the relevant literature, as there are few studies examining the specific outcomes of road injury in Europe from the victims’ perspective, especially for this hard-to-reach multi-trauma patient population (besides the hospital/police/insurance records widely used). Although the majority of severely injured survivors recover, investigation of their profile and those groups highly affected is important from a policy perspective to reduce the burden on individual and community resources.
