What is it about?
This paper presents a case study to compare the zone-level actual supplied ventilation rate with minimum required ventilation rate for a typical Air-Conditioning system based on occupancy information. Actual zone-level occupancy information has been collected using camera-based technology. The over and under ventilation scenarios have been identified as an indicator for energy wastage and poor indoor environmental quality, respectively.

Why is it important?
We define a method for determining actual zone level ventilation requirement based on occupancy, lighting and plug loads information. The study shows that the actually supplied ventilation is higher than the minimum required ventilation. Reducing the supply of ventilation to an optimal level, based on real-time occupancy information, would lead to energy savings.
