What is it about?

Using a sample of 99,479 Italian people aged 18 and over, we have estimated the prevalence of sedentariness and overweight/obesity and investigated the geographic variability in their association with socioeconomic status (SES) and family characteristics. In particular, it resulted higher risk of sedentariness for one-parent and other family types compared with couples with children. Also, the relative variation of BMI was statistically significant for one-parent, one-person and other families. An increasing north–south gradient was suggested for BMI, but not for sedentariness.
