What is it about?

In this paper we combine the results from 60 studies examining relationships between traits and values, using the Big Five taxonomy for traits and Schwartz's Value Taxonomy for values.

Why is it important?

Both traits and values are psychological characteristics of individuals that influence behavior, so understanding how they are related is important to understanding how each contributes to the prediction of behavior.

Perspectives

In the field of management, researchers tend to be dismissive of values, assuming that they are subsumed within the trait model. However, this study clearly shows that while there is some overlap, these are distinct constructs.
