Workforce Interventions in low- and lower-middle-income countries

What is it about?

The health workforce plays an important role in reducing the neonatal mortality rate. However, little is known about what workforce interventions best support health workers to appropriately care for newborns. A review of the current literature on health workforce interventions was undertaken to provide insight into ways forward to improve the quality of health care services and information to reduce the neonatal mortality rate in low- and lower-middle-income countries.

Why is it important?

Our review shows that uniformity regarding the approaches and duration of workforce training and staff supervision can be a useful workforce intervention strategy. Competency assessment can also be an important measure for improvement in the performances of health care providers.
