What is it about?

How can we explain and investigate the development of passion and performance driven by a non-entrepreneurial passion as is often the case, e g. in creative economy and social entrepreneurship? This article contrasts current passion theories and elaborates an interest-based approach to the development of passion and performance.

Why is it important?

The resulting framework offers a promising way to explain the dynamics of passion(s) and its cause-and-effect mechanisms. This is important because multiple sources of passion are a hardly empirically investigated phenomenon that cannot be fully explained by current theories.

Perspectives

The focus on this phenomenon is shaped by my own development as a musician, an entrepreneur and a professor. In my work with creative people, I see that different sources of passion can complement or hinder each other. With this framework, I am laying the foundation for empirical investigations and hope to make a contribution to other researchers in this field.
