What is it about?
Some think it may be necessary to artificially cool the Earth to counteract some or all of the human-caused global warming resulting from emissions of greenhouse gasses. Scientists are studying whether a 'Plan B' is feasible, but much depends on whether doing 'geoengineering' will set off unhelpful security dynamics and/or make climate negotiations to limit emissions even harder. This article considers how security problem could become a factor in the success or failure of the leading contender technology for geoengineering the planet.
