What is it about?
It is a review paper about concept of information. It contains reviews of the views of authors who consider information to be a subjective phenomenon or construction. You can find out what the following authors thought about the information: Shannon & Weaver, Maturana & Varela, G. Bateson, H. von Foerster, N. Luhmann, E. von Glasersfeld, J. Gougen, G. Dodig Crnkovic as well as LIS authors like B. Brookes, B. Dervin, I. Cornelius, G. Wersig and S. Talja. Why Shannon is represented in one such paper? In Shannon’s theory information becomes the property of communication signals and refers to informativeness a pre-encoded choice or message that depends on a pre-defined set of choices or messages. In that sense, the term ‘pre-encoded’ could correspond to the term ‘constructed.’
