This article performs a systematic review and content analysis of previous literature to identify what we know about the entrepreneurial orientation within family firms. Then, based on the research gaps identified, it proposes the main research questions that could impulse the progress of the field.

Why is it important?
The paper helps managers to consider the idiosyncratic characteristics of family firms when leading them and scholars to position their own contributions. The future research agenda highlights that there are several specific issues related to the uniqueness of family firms and their heterogeneity (e.g., familiness, concern for socioemotional wealth preservation, succession) that should be studied to increase our understanding of how they affect to both the antecedents and outcomes of the entrepreneurial orientation within family firms.
