What is it about?

From other surgical areas it is known that delayed surgery is associated with impaired outcome. Here for the first time we demonstrate that shorter time to surgery is associated with increased rate of good patient outcome and reduced risk of adverse events after Achilles tendon rupture (ATR).

Why is it important?

The incidence of ATR is increasing. The injury occurs during both leisure and professional sports. The optimal treatment of ATR, however, is unknown.

Perspectives

When an ATR is decided to be surgically treated it is essential to optimize the availability of operating rooms and support services to avoid system-related delays in surgery.
