Why is it important?

The study concerns a taboo-topic which is rarely addressed in education in prosthetics and orthotics, even if the students in their future profession, will meet many persons who have had their sexual health affected by their disease or trauma. The attitudes of the students can affect how they behave towards the patients and also how they respect and understand sexual health and is therefore of importance to explore to optimize education in this field.

Perspectives

When addressing the topic of sexual health for students in various healthcare professions , the students often present general lack of knowledge in this field, and even less competence concerning sexual health for persons with disabilities or of of older age. Additional knowledge concerning sexual health through the lifespan, so the students can meet all patients with respect and meet the needs of the patients is important.
