What is it about?

We studied men assessed in a forensic psychiatric hospital. Men with a history of domestic violence (intimate partner violence, IPV) had criminogenic treatment needs. These are risk factors that research has shown to be related to general criminal offending.

Why is it important?

Treatment programs for men who use domestic violence have typically focused on the domestic relationship rather than looking at the violence as a type of general offending. Our findings support a focus on criminogenic treatment needs, and using the wider research on criminal offending to inform domestic violence treatment.
