What is it about?

Optical methods such as near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) are used to monitor cerebral oxygenation, perfusion, autoregulation and metabolism. Detecting intracranial hematomas as well as monitoring neurorehabilitation is also possible. At the moment optical methods primarily remain research tools. More studies are needed to gain confidence for these techniques.
