Why is it important?
It is really only since the upheaval created by Solidarnosc in the early 1980s that Poland has begun to notice and to question its connection to Jewish history, to acknowledge the Jewish element in its own history, to wonder about the absence of Jews from modern Polish society, and to wonder what this absence means for a modern Polish culture.
