What is it about?

What affects global public opinion about U.S. foreign policy? In examining an international survey conducted immediately after 2001 United States-led war in Afghanistan, we find that shared security and economic interests have a positive influence on global perspectives of U.S. foreign policy.

Why is it important?

The results elicit important variables that affect global perspectives on U.S. foreign policy, particularly after a major event such as the 2001 war against Afghanistan. Among these variables, shared security and economic interests appear to have positive effects whereas U.S. efforts to influence foreign public opinion seems to have weak effects at best.
