What is it about?

We assessed the use of medication in a general psychiatric ward after implementation of specific interventions. We did this by comparing prescriptions from the intervention period with prescriptions in the same ward three years earlier.

Why is it important?

Restraint and coercion is an important matter, but he use of psychotropic drugs is also an essential matter as especially antipsychotic drugs contribute to reduced life-expectancy among individuals with severe mental illness.

Perspectives

Interventions, like the ones in our project, reduce coercion and possibly also medication use as the target stressors and make use of alternatives to medication, i.e. physical therapy.
