What is it about?

We developed a new passphrase system and tested it against the most popular existing passphrase systems, including just coming up with a phrase on your own. We found that our new system improved on the overall security and usability of these passphrase systems.

Why is it important?

Passphrases are more secure than passwords and avoid the various issues around biometrics. However, adoption of passphrases has been very slow. A large part of the reason is because there really hasn’t been much work done on secure but usable passphrases, which is why we wanted to take a look through the lens of human factors.

Perspectives

Instead of asking users to juggle both usability and security, which is quite complicated, let’s provide secure passphrases and allow users to do what they do best: making things easier for themselves. Our system includes features that would help facilitate this goal, and we’re willing to work together to make this happen.
