What is it about?

In this study, my coauthors and I counted up every statistical procedure used in 5 educational psychology journals. The most common methods were means and standard deviations, Pearson's r, chi-squared, ANOVA, t-tests, and MANOVA. The most common effect sizes were eta-squared, Cohen's d, and r-squared/R-squared.

Why is it important?

Most psychology graduate students have to take some statistics courses. This article helps faculty know which statistics are most important for students to learn in order to understand scientific literature.

Perspectives

I had a blast working with three other grad students, two of whom had been classmates and one of whom had been my student. This article has also helped me determine what to write in my textbook and how much to emphasize different methods.
