What is it about?

Lars Groth’s “Future Organizational Design: The Scope for the IT-based Enterprise” provides a well-written and realistic synthesis of a fashionable topic, namely the relatively short history of studies focusing on the effects of information technology on organisations.

Why is it important?

Among other things, Groth discusses the history of organizations, the use of pre-computer tools, the basic human limitations in organization building and what we can learn from this when searching for the possible contributions of IT. Groth shows that to implement technology without giving due consideration to organizational matters is to invite disaster.

Perspectives

This is one of the best books I have ever read. Period.
