What is it about?
Severe injury to the heart muscle can occur because of viral infections. If left untreated, these viral infections can result in a dramatic decrease in the function of the heart muscle. This manuscript presents a case example of a patient who had suffered significant damage to their heart muscle from an acute viral infection, and how this damage was detected using ultrasound.

Why is it important?
It is important to revisit the fundamentals of echocardiography assessment of dilated cardiomyopathies regardless of whether you are a new graduate sonographer, an experienced sonographer or trainee physician.
Perspectives
Publishing this case study was a proud moment, because it brought together my technical skills in echocardiography with my passion to share both my theoretical and practical skill and knowledge set.
