What is it about?

Most academics focus their research on their functional area of expertise. However many scholars also prefer to do research and to publish in the area of teaching and learning. An academic who prefers to focus on this area often has difficulties in achieving promotion. The purpose of this paper is to discuss the challenges of obtaining promotion for the teacher scholar and offers suggestions regarding how this challenge may be addressed.
