The review emphasizes the importance of education as a fundamental right. The book reviewed in question has dealt with the historical as well as contemporary school education trajectory in India. The various fields of discussions covered how India underwent policy changes in education so as to align its goals with the universal goal of free and compulsory education. It also highlights the social challenges and the meaningfulness of education for a population with myriad needs.

The book review is to enable researchers to get a brief overview of the edited volume.
Perspectives
The review of the recently published book comes at a juncture when we are headed towards realizing the SDG 4 by 2025. Education is emancipatory. Having spent a decade and a little more in understanding the field of education in India and across the world, writing the review has led me to refocus on some of the pertinent questions of the current times. This also brought to light that changes in education policy cannot be sudden or tsunamic. It has to carry the belief of the people that pursuing education is worth an effort when people at large face livelihood challenges.
