What is it about?

When we talk about immigrants, we talk about different people. Some of them move to live in another country once, others move from one place to another again and again. We use register data from Switzerland to trace the migration trajectories of 315,000 immigrants in Switzerland: how often they moved (across countries, but also within the country). Using sequence analysis, we present different types of migration trajectories.

Why is it important?

We have many anecdotal and qualitative accounts of different migration trajectories, but here we provide numbers: how many people follow what kind of trajectory.

Perspectives

This article is packed with numbers and insights, and we really struggled to get the right focus. I guess it's still a challenge to pick the one key finding here...
