What is it about?

This article examines the promise and the pitfalls of the sharing economy for developing countries in introducing a special collection of articles on this topic. Reduction of transactions costs and asset sharing are promising in theory, but so far have not met with the types of policy environments needed for marginalized groups to take advantage of them. So far, the sharing economy has unfolded mostly like the for profit economy.
