What is it about?
Alzheimer’s Disease is a neurodegenerative disorder in which precursors may manifest in cognition and brain structure. This paper investigated associations among genetic susceptibility to Alzheimer's disease and memory performance, hippocampal volume, reading and writing abilities, and executive function in children and adolescents.

Why is it important?
Our findings show children and adolescents with higher genetic susceptibility to Alzheimer's disease present lower performance in immediate and delayed memory recall tasks and lower bilateral hippocampal volume. These results support previous evidence that degenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer's disease, might present developmental contributions with roots in childhood.
