What is it about?

This article delineates the benefits of using Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP) in psychiatric general practice. It focuses on three types of benefits including: 1) evidence supporting ISTDP as an effective intervention for psychiatric populations; 2) unique skills acquired in ISTDP training that can be used in general psychiatric practice and 3) personal and systemic benefits of ISTDP training.

Why is it important?

We are not aware of any previous examination of this subject, so we aimed to delineate the known and theorized benefits of ISTDP to psychiatrists and to the populations they treat in this article.
