Why is it important?
These recommendations are important as there is very little guidance on how to switch between long acting injectable antipsychotic medications. Understanding the pharmacokinetic properties of the various formulations is essential to understanding how to switch between the medications.
Perspectives
At times, providers or patients may select to change between long acting injectable antipsychotic medications. There is very little guidance available in the literature or package insert labeling as to how to effectively transition between the medications. Clinical pearls and pharmacokinetic information is provided to assist the provider in making an effective transition.
