What is it about?
We have proved for the first time that significant raindrop size distribution (DSD) variability is observed in different parts of East Asian Summer Monsoon (EASM) rainband. This paper illustrated the possible microphysical mechanisms for the significant DSD variability, in terms of convective intensity, cloud structure, and aerosol effects.

Why is it important?
DSD is of great significance for the understanding of microphysical processes in generating rainfall particles and ultimately for improving radar QPE algorithms. There is an urgent need to improve the performance of QPE during EASM for flood forecast, urban waterlogging prediction and ocean storm monitoring. Thus we should study the precipitation microphysics during EASM.
