What is it about?

The Sun is the source of energy for the Earth’s climate system. It constantly evaporates water into the atmosphere and drives the hydrological cycle. We provides evidence of the robust response of the East Asian monsoon rainband to the 11-yr solar cycle and first identify the exact time period with the strongest correlation between the mean latitude of the rainband over China and the sunspot number. This period just corresponds to the climatological-mean East Asian mei-yu season, characterized by a large-scale quasi-zonal monsoon rainband (i.e., 22 May–13 July).

Why is it important?

Mei-yu is also the most important rainy season for the East Asian monsoonal region. The finding that the variability of the East Asian mei-yu rainband related with solar cycle could be useful for climate prediction and disaster prevention.

Perspectives

I hope that this article makes people think the easily neglected role of the sun in climate change and more people pay close attention to the variablity and anomaly of the sun. And I think that our finding is very interesting but need more discussion and deep understanding from readers.
