What is it about?

Protease/antiprotease imbalance is a cause of emphysema development in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). However, the pathological roles of protease/antiprotease imbalance in small airway injury have not been researched in cigarette smoke exposed to mice model and patients with COPD. This is the first study to show the relation between small airway injury and protease activity both in human and animal model.
