What is it about?
Acute asthma remains a common and dangerous complication. It is particularly common among children and triggered by virus infection and exposure to airborne allergies. Good asthma control with low dose prevent therapy prevents most acute asthma. However for those with more difficult asthma and recurring acute attacks, new therapies that control inflammation offer hope. Treatments that are better targeted to acute disease are still needed.

Why is it important?
Acute exacerbations or flares of asthma remain a major problem for people living with asthma. They are among the most common causes for hospital admission for children, as well as the major reason people with asthma need to take prednisone. We highlight the problem. Talk about triggers. We also highlight treatments available and the lack of progress that remains in developing therapies for this important problem.
