What is it about?
After an admission to the intensive care unit (ICU), many older adults experience worsening disability (needing more help with basic activities, such as walking or bathing) for months after they return home. This study shows for the first time that preexisting physical frailty and cognitive impairment act together to increase the risk of disability after an ICU stay.
