What is it about?
Little is known about the contributions of the ADAMs subfamily of metalloproteinases to the pathogenesis COPD. We show for the first time that the expression of ADAM9 is upregulated in lung epithelial cells and macrophages in COPD lungs and that Adam9-deficient mic are protected from multiple cigarette smoke-induced COPD-like lung pathologies including lung inflammation emphysema development, small airway fibrosis, and airway mucus metaplasia.
