What is it about?

This study, which is based on 18,554 adults with good quality measurements of their lung function, found little evidence of an association of chronic airflow obstruction (feature of COPD) with the use of solid fuels for cooking or heating. This finding was similar in low-, middle- and high-income countries.

Why is it important?

These results are at odds with previous reports from smaller studies and bring into question whether the use of solid fuels for cooking or heating can really explain the high death rate from COPD in poorer countries.
