What is it about?

In the course of time, Theosophy has experienced numerous schisms and formation of new branches. Agni Yoga (the Living Ethics, a name adopted in the 1930s), founded by the Russian painter Nicholas Roerich (1874-1947) and his wife Helena Roerich (1879-1955), is one of the most powerful branches of Theosophy. The Roerichs formed their theosophical system entailing elements of ethics and psychology on the basis of the ontology, cosmogony, and anthropology created by Helena Blavatsky. Nowadays their followers have developed a dense network of theosophical groups covering almost the whole of Europe and North America as well as several countries of South America and Asia.

Why is it important?

Opening of the secret archives of the USSR and previously inaccessible letters and diaries of theosophists to the public provides important information on the Roerichs’ “spiritual geopolitics.”

Perspectives

By finding commonalities in symbols of the contemporary theosophical groups, it is possible to understand the main axis around which their identity is formed.
