What is it about?

In their article on ‘Investigating historical abuses’ Yannick Balk, Georg Frerks and Beatrice de Graaf (2022) conclude that a moratorium on intercountry adoption is necessary because of the many adoption abuses in the past. We comment on the aims, methods, results, and conclusions of their applied history. We argue that the historical findings are insufficient to recommend a (temporary) stop on intercountry adoption as this would be at the expense of the millions of children in institutions for whom intercountry adoption should be the last resort.
