What is it about?

The Limbu are an ethnic community in Nepal with a rich oral tradition in their native language (which belongs to the Kiranti branch of Tibeto-Burman). In the mid-18th century a distinct script has been invented for writing down the tradition, but only since the mid-20th century this has slowly come into use by ordinary Limbu. The article describes the recent development of a print culture in which the production of religious books in Limbu script was of particular importance.
