What is it about?
Trait measurements help to study the performance of individual plants. Up-scaling of this information to the level an ecosystem signifies the most important input for models evaluating the state of the living world. Hydraulic and mechanical performance of trees depend to a large extent on wood traits. The article gives an overview of the functionality of wood anatomical features and gives guidelines of implementing wood research in ecological studies.
