What is it about?
Like Basmati, Aroma in Katarni Rice is natural and precious gift to the Farmers and is an important genetic resource for quality traits. Enhancing its yield without deterioration of the aroma can be a boon to its stakeholders. Markers assisted breeding in the present study provided a platform to efficiently track the introduction of semi-dwarfing and aroma genes in segregating progenies along with recovering the genome of Katarni for keeping its good quality characteristics. The identified promising lines would further be evaluated for yield in order to release them as semi-dwarf, aromatic cultivar among farmers.
